Want to Trade forex for a living? Read this.

Think of it like a really extreme freelance career, working for tips at a seasonal bar or restaurant. Every day, week, month, you have to put in the work to build your revenue stream. One Friday, you could pull in $800. Memorial Day weekend, $2000. Then for all of June to August, $50 a week, or worse, you spend more on bus fare just to get to work.
Same for trading. First you have to build some kind of personal track record. No one else needs to see it. No one else cares. It's just for you to know what you are actually capable of. You can't plan a monthly budget on an income you haven't proven yet.
Calculate your rock bottom monthly expenses. Rent, transportation, bills, food. No entertainment or other discretionary spending.
Compare to your hypothetical track record for trading. What's the worst month you had in a year? The best month? The average? How many months did you not make enough to pay your bills?
From that, figure out how much of a savings buffer you need, to afford that many months of bills, and no trading income (or worse, trading LOSSES).
Normal budget planning recommends 2-3 months of living expenses saved, plus an emergency fund. For volatile jobs, I'd say you need at least 2x that much. I've heard of some old school traders who only saw $0 or losses for 2 years straight. There's this penny stock trader guy Ross, who sells Warrior Trading education courses. In 2017 (?) he did a challenge where he traded $500 up toward a goal of $500,000 in a year -- he posted account updates (as far as one can trust them), and showed that he reached $335k by the end of the year, but had SIX MONTHS of zero to negative returns in the middle of his year. In 2012-2014, volatility died, and a lot of traders couldn't hack it in those conditions. With price movement dead for two years, how would you adjust for the lack of trading opportunities and income?
Your living costs need to be as low as possible, and your trading income needs to be sufficiently high, so that even your low months are consistently able to cover your bills. If your living cost is currently $2500 a month, and you have a $50,000 job, then one example might be to downsize your life (take on roommates, whatever) to reduce your cost down to $1500/mo and aim for a trading account size combined with personal trading method that gets you an annual range of $50k-$100k. That way, even in a bad year when you only make $25k, you'll still be able to pay rent. And just as they recommend for people who make good tips, save the extra income from any good month or year, until you have that huge safety cushion to live off.
It sucks immensely to trade under pressure when you don't have rent money. It's one of the big rules -- never trade with money you can't afford to lose.
If that all sounds too unglamorous, keep a part-time to full-time job, and trade in the evenings/plan your setups on the weekend to juice your income. Keeping a base income means covering your bases (so long as the job market is good), leaving you to trade stress free. Even if you blow a $1000 account, hopefully you can build that back up in a few months of saving from your normal job.
By the numbers, 93% of new traders quit or fail within 5 years. And only less than 1% of traders are profitable after expenses, per year. That means anyone who makes more than $0, so there's a long way to reach an income you can live on. Work towards being that successful guy, but make plans to survive the initial X number of years where you haven't yet proven your ability to be that guy.

How Much Money Do I need to Trade Forex, Stocks, Indices, or Cryptocurrency for a Living?

How Much Money Do I Needto Trade Forex, Stocks, Indices, or Cryptocurrency for a Living?

Most traders start with small accounts of up to $ 5,000 or similar and plan to become millionaires within a year.
Experienced traders already realize that this is, of course, wrong.
You can only fault yourself because you have ambitious goals that will only frustrate you.
Of our Tournament, we need a 10 percent monthly growth and that is called an advantage.
The 10 percent benefit has been selected for being inspiring and still achievable.
There is practically no day when all of our projects don't meet a Challenge.
Many traders are going to make this required benefit too small, but FTMO has a set maximum loss of 10 percent.
So we want the trader to earn 10% of the initial capital within 30 days, without losing 10% of the initial capital.
So the desired profit, as well as the maximum permissible loss, are in balance.
Since we are traders too, we know that there are sometimes months that do not correspond to our plan.
If you do not achieve the desired profit, you will receive a new Challenge from us
at least zero at the end of the period and you do not violate any other rule.
We have an idea, thanks to a relatively large number of traders,
of what we should expect from traders who progressed to their live FTMO accounts.
More caution is generally exercised on the funded account, and consequently, the average gain is lower than in the Challenge.
Only rare exceptions are profiting in tens of percent.
We as investors are pleased to see a 4-7 percent long-term appreciation.

Money for Trading
Let's compare two accounts, a smaller account at around $5,000, and a $100,000 account that we're offering to manage.
Let's be optimistic and count on a 7 percent monthly appreciation.
The $5,000 account 's final profit would be $350
Our $100,000-funded account would print the $7,000 profit, but in this case, it is necessary to deduct our portion of the profit.
You will earn a net profit of $4,900 after taking our 30 percent,
which corresponds to the salary of an experienced banking programmer or financial analyst.
If this was your first trading month, the fee you originally paid for the Challenge will also be refunded to you.
Working with the concept of opportunity cost, too, is important.
This term identifies the most profitable alternative activity you might be able to do, rather than trade.
Hence we compare the alternative employment income vs. the resulting monthly profit.
Let's say you could stay at work for two hours longer instead of evening trading, and take an extra $8/hour.
Your trading will cost you $320 a month (20 working days x $16), Only because you're doing it.
The resulting monthly trading income is only $30 higher ($350-$320)
for your $5,000 account, and you risk your entire deposit!
In the case of $100,000 of the FTMO account, the resulting net
profit is $4,580, and our company will cover any potential risk of loss.
These numbers are a little bit better, don't you think?
It should also be remembered that if you ended up at zero for
a month on a trading account, you'll earn $320 if you didn't trade.
At first glance, it's obvious that living on a long-term basis without risking too much and
putting trading on the side of gambling is not very realistic out of a small $5,000 account.
So we think our services are
of interest to all serious traders.
Have you got
what it takes?
Make sure you pass and become a Funded FTMO Trader by completing the Challenge.
If you have any questions please leave a comment below.

Cheers and Profitable Trading to All.

I'm Having trouble running a bash file.

Hi Everyone,
So I trade forex for a living. Use a windows only program called Meta-trader which I run via wine.
Thing is I dont want to type the commands each time in the terminal. So I tried writing a bash script to launch the file quickly but it isn't working outside of the terminal.
This is what I did.
#!/bin/bash
wine /home/kieron/pepperstone/drive_c/"Program Files"/"Pepperstone MetaTrader 4"/terminal.exe
#!/bin/bash
Now This works perfectly fine when I run in inside of the terminal (./Metatrader.sh). The problem is it won't run If I click it outside of the terminal, even though I ran chmod on it to make it executable.
The problem is my mother also uses this program, and she doesn't understand commands and such things. So If I'm not around she can't start the program on her own. This is why I need the script to run when it's clicked on.
However clicking on it doesn't run it, instead it just opens up it the text editor (gedit).
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Why a Live Forex Chart is important For Traders

There are two common theories as far as live forex charts are concerned: The first is by the many forex traders who believe that live forex charts can never be used to win in a forex trade simply because they rely on demand and supply fundamentals. On the other hand, some investors believe that live forex graphs are a mirror reflection to a human mind; they are constant but prices can be predicted. Which is a fact and which is not? Forex Brokers Reviews
The truth is that live currency graphs work and deliver results. There is however one common misconception that must be cleared even before we get into how live currency charts work. Contrary to common belief, live charts are not used as tools to predict future variations in pair prices. The truth is that unlike scientific theories, prices are not determined by fixed aspects. If this was the case, live charts would be very predictable, and there would be no point in trade in foreign exchange, would there? This, however, does not mean that live charts are not useful to the foreign exchange trade. As a matter of fact, live forex tables are some of the most important tools in use in foreign exchange trading. Combined with technical analysis, live currency graphs can be some of the most valuable assets an exchange trader can have in the business.
With the help of live forex charts, you can know the moving averages and when the price has gone above or below. Day trading does not require much analysis apart from some real time history of price movements. It is a vital tool in a seasoned trader's toolbox and the newbie simply cannot do without it. Getting technical indicators upfront in real time has come as a big boon to online forex traders coast to coast. forex broker review
With live charts you can identify when the market has entered an overbought zone with the help of RSI. To enter and exit a trade and also for working on multiple indicators, you need live charts to guide you through. If two indicators like the RSI and MACD indicate buy signals, then you could buy and forex market requires taking decisions in a flash. To make profits and keep losses to the minimum, use forex live chart.
The live forex chart is a lifeline for the day trader wanting to close positions within a matter of a few minutes or hours. Usually a long term investor in the forex market does not need live charts, but day traders require keeping tabs on price changes by the minute. Top Rated Forex Brokers
Traders depend solely on the chart prices to plan their moves and they have to be real time stuff to be of any use. Depending on what type of trade you would be doing, you should select the right software for viewing forex charts. You can monitor every single move the currency pair makes as well as keep track of technical indicators.

First options play, 20 $240 9/6 ULTA calls

This is my first options play ever so I’m kind of excited to learn something new. It’s a small play just because I don’t like losing and want to learn before I start going in with more.
I’ve been trading stocks and forex for a living for a couples of years now, over the last week I’ve been making a lot of plays on ULTA just due to the volatility and the easy money all except one went my way according to my technical analysis.
The bottom yesterday came in an area that has been a support the last year and a half. The bounce from this level was typically very quick as was shown with the climb yesterday and today. Due to this and the volatility along with the fact that the stock was oversold the sell off was a bit exaggerated, we are now in the perfect position for it to continue upwards. I’m looking to get out above $240 but will be watching the 20 sma on the 1 minute to see when to truly get out.
Edit: Cost basis was at $0.5, altogether going for $1010 including commission.
Edit 2: sold them within the first two minutes of market open at an average price of $0.72 (10 at $0.80 and then the other 10 part at $0.65) total profit after commission came out to be $418. Thanks to the autist who bought at these levels.

Tax implications for Futures/Forex trader

Hi guys,
I'm 22, I've been trading futures and forex for a living for the past 2-3 years, my account is 80k and on average I make 10-15% per month which I withdraw for my living, however I've been thinking of making a limited company to pay less tax, perhaps are there any other people who could advise if that is a good idea, what problems will I face, maybe I should just register a company off shore? I don't have much knowledge in this area, what should I do? My main aim is to minimize the amount of tax I pay,
any advice would be appreciated,
many thanks,

A Question For Full-Time Home-Based Forex Traders - are you embarrassed by what you do for a living?

Do you dread the ubiquitous "what do you do?" question?
When you explain, does the blank stare response annoy you?
Does the condescending - "oh right, you're a banker" frustrate you?
Or the look of pity on when your new acquaintance realises that in fact you have no job, but instead must sit at home in your underpants all day, feeding an insatiable gambling addiction?
Have you struggled with the fact that you essentially do nothing of real worth for a living? You create nothing, you help no-one, do you make no real difference?
These are all thoughts I have had myself at various times. I'd be interested if any other full-time people on here have felt the same.
